History

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”  Marcus Garvey

Our Vision for History at Headcorn Primary School...

At Headcorn School, we see History as integral to children feeling engaged and part of their community, both locally and worldwide. It is important that pupils see how the past impacts upon their lives and feel inspired to be curious about why and how things have come about. The who, what, when and where types of questions are just the start of it; as historians, pupils will explore the importance of understanding sources and exploring abstract concepts, such as migration, empire, parliament and civilisation. By using the National Historical Association as a starting point for planning, the children will be given a cohesive, well-considered curriculum that encourages
understanding of chronology, in order to develop an understanding of their own place in the world.
